On a recent Walt Disney World Resort vacation we were looking for a place to grab a quick dinner that wasn’t in one of the theme parks. We had spent the day at Magic Kingdom and needed an escape from the madness for a while. Even though we were staying at Wilderness Lodge we decided to take the boat to the Contemporary for dinner at the Contempo Cafe.

My daughter has several food allergies so we had to ask for the “allergy” menu and she ended up ordering a bacon cheeseburger. She had to avoid the bakery case altogether and the only safe dessert option was soft serve ice cream.

The other members in our group (several of whom aren’t fans of quick service dining) found the ordering setup to be a bit confusing – grab tray, get dessert, order at cash register. I’ll admit I wasn’t a fan of it either and I’m sort of a quick service dining “expert.” After we ordered our food was delivered to our table.

Several of the adults in our group headed to the Outer Rim to grab a drink to go with dinner – but you can also purchase beer or wine in the coolers at Contempo Cafe. Other beverage options include water, juices, and of course the soda machine.

The general consensus of the group was that the flatbread pizzas were really good. The pasta dishes were less-than-stellar with minimal sauce (plus the dishes were cold when they arrived at the table). The Lobster Roll was OK but a little too rich for my taste. On the upside, the cupcakes were delicious (of course).

The Contempo Cafe wasn’t great but it wasn’t that bad either.
