One of the biggest benefits to staying in Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower is the opportunity to have quick access to the monorail. And what makes it cooler than other “monorail resorts” is that at the Contemporary, the monorail track literally goes through the Disney Contemporary Resort!
Make no mistake about it, the ease of having the monorail stop in your living room is an incredible benefit. For those who have stayed at other resorts, you know that getting to the Magic Kingdom is one of the most time-intensive trips in Disney World — especially if you’re driving! At the Contemporary, you simply pack up your kids, the stroller, and the backpack, head downstairs, and grab the next gleaming train to pull up. From there, you’re in Epcot or at the Magic Kingdom in no time.
Tips and Facts About the Monorail at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
The monorail station in the resort is located on the 5th floor — and it’s the only thing located on that floor. To get there, take the elevator or escalators to the 4th floor Grand Canyon Concourse. Tucked into an enclave next to the elevator bank, you’ll find two single-file escalators — one leading up to the monorail platform, and one leading down from the monorail platform. There is also a handicapped-accessible elevator dedicated to carrying folks between the 4th and 5th floor landings.
Once you arrive on the monorail platform, simply follow the metal railings to the loading area. Only the “Resort Monorail” stops at the Contemporary, so it will always be going the same direction — right to left — from the Magic Kingdom toward the Transportation and Ticket Center. Every once in a while, you’ll see an “Express Monorail” speeding by in the other direction, but you’ll never board that train at the Contemporary — it doesn’t stop there.
From the Contemporary, the Resort Monorail stops at the Transportation and Ticket Center (where you can transfer to the Epcot Monorail bound for Future World), the Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and the Magic Kingdom.
The best part? When you’re exhausted from a day at the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary is the first stop on the way home!
